That's the plan right now. Plus I might experiment with covering them myself. Either way, I'll have a decent training tool.

I would agree that he makes good stuff, but 200 bucks is very steep for me. I did actually own one of his first string ones, but alas they have been broken. Hence my search for new ones.

Ouch, not looking for anything that good. Just a general wacking stick for practice. Fukuro or uncovered is fine.

Hello all,

I am looking for a descent shinai to train with, and I really have no idea what to look for. Can anyone suggest a site/distributor or maybe give some pointers for selecting my own.

Thanks,
Jim D.

As an addition to this question, I was wondering how many instructors give individual kyu ranks still. I have been in several schools and have seen both the giving of individual kyu' and just going from green belt to black with no differentiation in kyu grad.

Thanks,
Jim D.

Good points being made my many people, I just thougth I'd add some things in regard to the Mako-ho. This is an excellent form of stretching when done properly. Also there is more to it than just the four main stretches. There are also partner exercises that are a form of stretch and massage.

Mako-ho as a system, is structured similar to martial arts. It has a honbu dojo and a kyu/dan grading system. Finding instructors can be challenging, atleast in the US. Currently, to my knowledge, there are only 3 licensed instructors in the US.

Good Luck,
Jim D.

This is just out of curiosity. If I recall correctly, there was as time when Soke was very ill and he licensed some of the Japanese Shihan in particular Ryu-ha. I was just wondering if anyone knew which shihan recieved which ryu.

Thanks,
