I trained during my honeymoon in Japan, and so did my wife. Paul Fisher's dojo is less than twenty minutes away from Jupiter.

When flying out of Narita airport, I was told I needed to check my shinai at the counter, yet people were allowed to board with tennis rackets, baseball bats, etc...

What is this bologna? I finally saw the video on YouTube and can say that both Bruce and Doug did fantastic. Anyone who thinks that they can have a shinai duel against someone and NOT get hit needs to think again, or better yet try it. Try watching an olympic fencing match or a Dog Brothers Kali sparring session and tell me if anyone gets away unscathed.

Bruce did just fine. Bill is much stronger and has a longer reach. Also keep in mind that shinai aren't exactly stopping weapons. Had they been bokken, I sbet Bill would have thought twice about charging. This isn't a Steven Segal movie where you beat the guy without getting scratched.

Doug did even better, mixing things up and keeping Jason confused. The grapple at the end? Well Jason is a SPECIALIST at grapping, so i'm not surprised. What does surprise me is how everybody is blowing it out of proportion when it was all of three seconds, while not praising Doug for the much longer period of completely dominating the guy.

Hello everyone -

I am going to be honeymooning in Japan around Daikomyosai time and since the Hanata isn't exactly romantic, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a nice hotel to stay at that is near (or nearish) to the Budokan. Easy access to the train station would be nice too.

I was recommended the New Otani hotel, any opinions on it?

Soke was using alloy training swords. There's no need to oil them.

My fiance is a schoolteacher and she recently read her students a children's book called "Three Samurai Cats" which is a translation of the fable Neko-no-Myojutsu that was mentioned by Soke in the recent Way of the Ninja book. The kids seemed to like it.

Paul is teaching every Monday and Thursday from 7-9pm and we are back in the dojo with a nice small group. You can just show up and train, or if you need to contact him he checks his e-mail daily and that is probably the best way to get in touch.

The worst is yet to come. All that stagnant water with dead bodies floating around and lying in the streets, combined with the unhygenic conditions people are in is going to lead to a major outbreak of disease.
