As an Emergency Room R.N., I have also done CPI certification and I agree that it has nothing to offer when confronting a 250 pound schizophrenic wacked out on crack or PCP. There are times when talking a patient down is unsuccessful. When they present a danger to themselves and those around them, physical restraint becomes the final option until they can be sedated/medicated. In my experience Budo Taijutsu has saved my butt a few times.
Just my 2 cents.

Human emotions,Common Threads
Placed in tiny bottles,
Cast into a sea of electricity
for everyone's inspection,

Some see War,Some see Peace,
Others streams and "Piles"
Relationships formed from messages sent,
Providing many of us with "Smiles",

Poetry forged in the inner eye,
In the crucible of the soul,
Is never bound by "improvements"
Or some "Higher Standard" Goal,

We cast it out upon the waves,
Never to take it back,
But hope others will embrace it,
And Inspire them to act.

Buffu Ikkan!

Smile!

Watch the Sun rise,
It's a new day....Smile!

See the young Child,
Playing without a care....Smile!

Friends and Families,
Together sharing precious time....Smile!

Take a Deep Breath,
You are still Alive....Smile!

Holiday Gas Attack-(no anti-depressants required)

Under-cooked Turkey,
Guts Churning.
Pressure building deep within,
Time to blame the Dog Again!

Happy Holidays!

Falling from the sky
An amorphous mass of di-polar moments
Links and bonds of crystalline matrices
Form in an infinite array of linear vectors
Similar in content
Individual in form
Spinning and falling in a frenetic dance against gravity
Landing ever so soft, to it's temporary rest.

Until the Spring...the Sun.....
Molecular momentum
Brownian Motion
Hydrogen bonds cease to bind
Unchained from it's terrestrial prison
It will achieve formlessness again
To achieve freedom....
To travel on.....
To begin the journey again.

Sorry it took so long to get back, Please use whatever you want, it is simply a message/idea in a bottle cast into the ocean for anyone to use as they see fit.

Thank you for the nice comments, I have based my feeling/concepts of Zero on my personal experiences. I have lost everything I have owned 3 times. I have no real attachment to "physical" things. I deal with death everyday in my chosen profession, life is transient and fragile. To me Zero is like perfection, or drawing a circle free-hand. I can work hard to "achieve" that higher level, but will I succeed? Or do our imperfections(not unlike those of diamonds, ice crystals, molecular matrices)help define our being, and in embracing inherent flaws we strip away the socially forced ideal/roles and truly observe our true nature in an third-person/observer way free from the self, our own critic/defender. Strip away the ego, the socially forced notion role, and beneath it is the Zero.
Thanks again,
Wil

I would like to preface this by stating officially that I am a nobody, a position I currently enjoy.
Living on the fringes of the Bujinkan, I have used the internet as a great tool to access information, training gear and of course most of Hatsumi-Soke's Densho(both paper and video). The internet is no way a substitute for training.Having "observed" many of the threads/posts, I have made the choice to minimize my own participation. Not to get too esoteric BUT,in my training I choose to "check my ego at the door"(and try and kill it outside of the dojo!). And even though he chose not to include himself in his post, after reading several of his responses, Sensei Ed Martin is a voice of balance and reason when others,it seems to me,have forgotten to "check their egos at the door". This is not meant as sucking up as we have never spoken or met before, it's just an observation. My words, posted or spoken are a mirror of who I am. Am I reflecting an image I want others to see?

Seeking emptiness I stumble along,
Looking outward to seek the inner,
Though Dark is the night,
My soul is my light,
as I strive to become the Zero.

Less is more, and more is less,
Lessons that I have learned,
To kill my ego,
and persevere,
There are no burdens when I become the Zero.

Then one day,
This flesh will pass away,
My footsteps nothing more than a Shadow,
With my journey done in the Cold Winter Sun,
My home will be in the Zero,
