I wasn't sure how to break the news either, but I bet most already knew. She was well-loved in the Bujinkan and for good reason. I'm glad I knew her, and I know what her loved ones are going through.

Glad to hear it, Leam! Keep working with your doctors to make sure there's no heart disease, and keep up with some exercise. And keep us posted.

Certainly not the news you were hoping for, obviously. Please let us know the outcome.

Is it really appropriate to totally derail a thread to jump on one guy? And then, after he says he's leaving, verbally lash out at him? Maybe this thread should be edited to get back on topic or something?

Huh? I haven't offered any advice in this thread. I only commented about that quote being from a ridiculous source.

It was once said I believe , that a naked man in an empty room has the capacity to become a master of Ninjutsu.

That was from an Ashida Kim book, I believe. I seem to recall reading that about 25 years ago, anyway.

There are a number of forums to which I belong that restrict content to registered users only. Seems entirely reasonable. Kutaki is a relatively small and focused community, anyway. It hardly seems like a hardship to register in order to view the content.

The new version has some nice features, too!

Can anyone honestly explain why there is no pressure testing of any of the movements (not talking about strikes but actual taijutsu)? My personal opinion is that a degree of aliveness is required for anyone to really be any good at any type of budo...

It's true that MOST do not pressure test but there is a significant minority that practices with pressure for exactly the reasons you mention.

If you have 50lbs to lose, don't ignore that. First fix that then address anything else.

You may be suffering from an overuse/undertrained situation. Some kind of leg exercise that may also cause you to lose weight could possibly help a great deal. But start with the excess weight.

Hi Ed,

The hickory bokken I shattered was from Bugei trading company. This was many years ago. They also used to make a resin impregnated bokken that was dang near invincible, but I think they had consistency problems with the process.

I have used a few of your tools over the years. I can't recall one breaking, although I find the bokken to be awkwardly designed. It's a preference thing, but the 'curve' is very unwieldly.

The thing with white oak is that you have to hand select your tool. I've found some that were very light, and others that were much more dense. The ones I have are dense and have taken abuse flawlessly for over a decade. And I hit REALLY hard with my sticks.

Take care,
Aric
