There were a lot of us who already knew, but didn't want to bite the bullet and post the news. Thanks for going ahead with that.

I knew Abi from the time she began training. She was a wonderful person and superb budoka. I'll never forget her, and I'm glad she can rest now.

I expect that khukuris will see a new surge in popularity for a while now. . .

Or you can find her on Facebook (I know who Ed has to be talking about).

Regardless, knowing this hasn't made my taijutsu any better. Having a Japanese Shihan tell me I need to move my right knee a quarter inch to the outside in order to line up my kamae correctly does make my taijutsu better. Knowing the meaning behind the kuji and mantras used in the initial bowing in ceremony doesn't do anything to make my kihon happo better. Pointing out that I need to lower my weight more to line up my boshiken with the target better does make my kihon happo better.

As far as "feeling", that comes from experience, not knowledge (in my opinion).

From your keyboard, to the Bujin Kamisama's monitor screen.

I think its good for everyone to go back to their basic's and study the beginnings of where we all came from. I'm sure their are lessons to be learned still.

Hatsumi sensei appears to think so as well, judging from the theme he has established for this year's training.

Sounds very familiar, John, as I'm sure it will to many others. Thank you for sharing this.

We really need a "like" button for experientially informed and reflective posts like that.

Again, Ari, my personal feeling is that "the art" is not really one or the other of those, the 1540 vintage or contemporary applications -- it's both.
