What Ryu-Ha does Bujinkan's Tantojutsu originate from?

As far as I know, there is no tantō jutsu in the ryūha of the Booj.

I'll second that; no tantojutsu.

How come Hatsumi Sensei teaches Shinobi Tantojutsu then?
Are you trying to say that there is no Tantojutsu in Bujinkan?! There are Shihans who teach this art. There are even some Kamae specific for this art.

I don't know if there are any kata related to tanto in any of the Bujinkan ryuha (I haven't heard of any) but just because something is taught doesn't always mean that there is a historical kata for it. I think that if you just fix on the idea that there must be kata or a densho for anything you do then your taijutsu can become rigid and much will be lost. When we started the year of kodachi Hatsumi-sensei said that he had gone back through the densho to look at the kata related to kodachi but could find only seven. He said he thought that couldn't be right as he had done a ton of stuff on kodachi with Takamatsu-sensei. It was then he said the realised that the most important things weren't always written down. I think you'll find the knife kamae come from many different sources and all of them are kamae from taijutsu or other weapons as henka for knife. For example "Hachiji no kamae" I don't want to say where I think these kamae belong though because I may well make a mistake.

Exactly. We have Juppou Sesshou no jutsu for small weapons and it's enough for us. I think that our ancestors were clever enough to avoid listing tons of katas for everything they did. If I make a Densho, I'll keep the list to a minimum, because

That's what I mean. There is no formal tantō in Bujinkan. Of course one can use juppō sesshō or jutte techniques (like kage no kamae) or even schools from outside of the Bujinkan to adapt to the shortest sword.
But there are no kata or anything mentioned in any denshō. There are -IIRC- some techniques versus tantō though... in Gyokko Ryū if I'm not mistaking. But this is quite speculative... don't quote me on it pretty please, and please do NOT hesitate to correct me.

Ok Buyu, I'll try and break this down in a way you can understand. But you won't, because you don't want to hear. If you want some Bujinkan techniques to write down in the "anals" of your "benevolent conspiracy",get Knife and Pistol Fighting. Masaaki Hatsumi, Soke of nine schools of martial arts writes, (translated from the Japanese, I'm not so cool as to write Japanese) in his book, "Knife and Pistol Fighting": "The knife and pistol fighting techniques that I am introducing here came from the spirit of military tactics developed over 900 years from real life and death situations." So there you go, Hatsumi's Knife and Pistol techniques. What ryuha do they com from? Read that quote again. You've surfed the web alot, right? Probably read about Togakure ryu being used as a blanket ryuha, or maybe opinons on the name changes... these are the opinions of very small minded people. Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is not a composite of the ryuha gata, it is much more; it contains the breath of life and momentum, like wings. What ryuha does Roppo Kuji no Biken or Juppo Sessho come from? Are these ideas part of the Bujinkan? Ryuha kata are yesterdays news. Move forward.

How can I explain such a high-level thing here? But, because it was the theme for the last year, you can check http://www.buyubooks.com/product_details.cfm?id=10838 . (According to the "Hambojutsu, Juttejutsu, Tessenjutsu" book, "Juppou Sesshou no jutsu" was originally used as another name for "Kangi", namely, Kenjutsu, Tessenjutsu and Juttejutsu.)
