More traditional Japanese is gender specific in some ways, but modern Japanese has almost no gender specific quirks. It's evened out well just in the past 20 years (Heisei Period) especially.

Although Japanese is not regarded as a gender specific language in the same way that French, or even English is, there are still to this day specific ways of speaking that differ between male and female speakers. I agree that one of the best ways to learn Japanese is to get a Japanese boyfriend or girlfriend, however one should be careful not to emulate their speech too closely. Take Steven Segal for example, who I believe had a Japanese wife at one time. He is (or was) quite popular in Japan and has done some films in Japanese, however everyone agrees that his Japanese sounds feminine. It is probably a good idea to surround yourself with a wide variety of Japanese speakers (if available) or other Japanese language inputs (especially television media, if actual Japanese speakers are scarce). That way you are exposed to as many different ways of speaking as possible.
Just my two cents worth, put it in the bank and it might be worth something in 700 years

While this is rapidly becoming a language discussion instead of a Ryu ha discussion....

I have heard because we (rightfully so) learn polite Japanese, that not only do we punch like a girl, but we also speak like one! It is not gender specific but it sure has tendencies.

back to the topic of (not) having the book.
amazon says July 18 ship date now.

back off the topic again:
as for "punching like a girl"... hmmm... being a guest in the US for a while, I understand that this is an American idiom used for a good joke. However, I could not help but remind myself that (1) most of my bodo sisters can deliver very powerful strikes. I have been on the receiving end of those from time to time... . (2)My experience is that the girls learn faster on average the bujinkan punch than the guys. The guys want to keep boxing, the girls get the efficiency of movement much easier. (3) several times on tai kai or DKMS dvds I saw Sensei suggesting the guys to use some feminine energy to spice up the waza... I stop here before I say those bad jokes that swirl in my head, hehehe...

in our group, "you punch like a girl!" is a compliment. The other thing about girls punching is - they tend to actually hit you as well.

They are really pissing me off. I'm going to Peru next week. Wouldn't it be funny if I could find the book there?

I just received a notice from Amazon that my copy shipped today only hours after another notice said between the 23rd and 25th. Should be along presently.

Hey Sonny, it is nice to see you here I hope to see you next time mate.
Maybe Amazon first send the in-land orders then will start international, I do not have hurries. I still go back the old books and try to understand more.
