Rolling...
Deleted_
How can i roll, if i have a sword tied on my back? I thought that the ninjas carry sword on
their back, but that would disable the rolling.
Or would it?

As you stealthily approach the castle wall by moonlight, slip the sword over your shoulder and off your back, without breaking stride. Hold it in one or both hands as you roll. Then slip it back over your shoulder and around your back. You must continue to run or you'll lose momentum and won't be able to scale the castle wall and complete your mission.

You also have to (quietly) bundle the special long ninja sageo (with one hand) before you roll, otherwise you may trip on your sword ties (loudly) and be forced to use smokebombs to escape capture and torture.

This is from the secret teachings.

Or, you can use your "rolling with sword on back" kuji, before you depart for your mission!

I think what they are trying to get accross to you is that what you are referring to is more hollywood than reality. Ninja didn't really run arround with swords strapped to their backs.

You have an interseting question. Maybe your instructor can give you some guidance if you ask them. Also, Hatsumi Soke made a video, "Togakure ryu Ninpo Taijutsu" where the shihan demonstrate different ways of wearing the sword. Interesting ideas how you can put your tools where you need them most. Re: "Rolling"- at the end of the tape, 2 shihan with swords attack a third. One draws a sword from behind his back, interesting if you watch it in rewind and then give the roll a try. Don`t break your neck. I don`t suggest trying the "roll with sword on back" kuji either; that tends to give me painful, gut wrenching gas.
