Or then just ask your instructor :) -Nico

Hello,
Karate-mart has them for something like $15.99. Mine was around 20 bucks with shipping (US). Gary

Your local hard wood salesman sells them. Just take a hard wooden staff up to your eye brows.
I suggest an ashen bō.

Hmm, pipin' in here...
We have been given (through Hatsumi-s√ke) the length of J√ (or Yonshakub√) as "up to your armpit" --> using this as a starter for Hanb√ (=Sanshakub√ --> 3/4 of J√) and Rokushakub√ (twice the Hanb√)... Or any other way to count it... but the J√ we could use as the "standard" to go from. ----------- Ari Julku Shid√shi Bujinkan Yamazu D√j√

I too have heard that a jo/yonshakubo should go from the floor to your armpit. But then I've also heard that a hanbo/sanshakubo should go from the floor to your navel. I've just measured that (good job no one shares my office!) and that was 43.5 inches for me. So a rokushakubo for me would be about 87 inches. As a "standard" shop-bought rokushakubo is 72 inches, that equals an appreciably longer weapon. But then I pointed out at training last week that I think we often do some movements incorrectly with the rokushakubo e.g. a strike to ashi because we are using a weapon that is far too short for most of us. To strike to ashi means we have to be too close in the first place or reaching in, resulting in poor grip and unbalanced kamae. Therefore we should either train with longer weapons (which aren't always easy to come by) or modify the target of the various strikes to suit the shorter weapon.
Of course this is just my current opinion on the matter. I'd be pleased to hear other ideas on this subject as it is of great ongoing interest to me.

HEHE took my navel/armpit measures too - and it seems to go quite close to the "shaku-proportions". Surprisingly!!!

So how long would a rokushakubo be for you then out of interest?
