Firstly man used sticks and stones.
These combined became a club/axe.
Mainly a tool, but also very effectivie in combat/war as opposite to a sword thats usually a status symbol/weapon.

I`ve read that Buddhist monks takes with them an Axe when meditating on/in the mountains. Probably a token of living in/with nature?

My question is: How do you feel about specialising in this tool, and how would you treat this? like a Kama?

That's cool Danny. Hey! You could probably forge your OWN Tomahawk, that is, if you had a source for steel....

Hummm... Where could you find a source for steel where you live?

PACHINKO BALLS MAYBE???? HUMMMM?????

Hi,

Ineteresting question, but do you know if the Japanese used the axe at war in feodal times?

Best regards:

Quote Ninjutsu H & T:

"Also adopted from the Chinese war tool collection that came to the Ninja of Japan at the fall of the T`ang Dynasty, the Ono or battle ax was a weapon used to smash through castle gates, knock warriors off their horses, or totally crush any attempt at combat with a lesser weapon."

Now, THIS is an Axe

Why would you want to specialize in any particular weapon?

I'm no weapons expert but I think that mastering the use of axes as a weapon would be quite hard to do, unlike a sword or a spear, you have at its adge a really big and heavy, rather hooklike peice of metal, it can get stuck (or even be cought\held) of course you could use this to your advantage but it would be hard to learn, its not without reason that axe weilders were fearsome and rare on the battlfeild (in comparison to swordsmen and spearmen), evolution in war works rather fast

of course my theory might be comletly false, as I said- Im no weapon expert
at anyway one should always try, and even if it would take years, it sounds like a fun way to pass them
many thanks, avraham

I firmly believe that if one devotes their efforts toward mastery of taijutsu, then the weapon matters not. No doubt that axes are "cool" weapons, I would love to learn how to throw a tomahawk. However, that is more out of curiosity than to become an expert at it. I feel that taijutsu will make anyone quite effective with any weapon, even those that may not appear to be weapons. They all require varying distances, timing, and movement. Just my thoughts about mastery of weapons.
