Will the Godan test ever be available outside of Japan and
be given by other Shihans without Soke present? Just curious
if there has been any talk of this.

Thanks,
Shane

The test is currently being conducted by Senior Shihan now, as well as Soke, in Japan only, and only in the presence of Soke i believe.

I have also heard that in an exceptional circumstance, Soke is allowing it to be conducted without him present, and the goes for outside of Japan as well. I think ive only heard of this happening outside of Japan once.

Im sure there are others on here that are more in the know on this subject than myself, but this is only what ive been told and have read about.

There is an article i read on Phil Legares website, http://shinkentaijutsu.com/content/article_43004.php

Hope this helps answer your question.

What Shane has told you is correct, it is being conducted by 15th dan in Japan with Soke present. Only under very special circumstances has Soke permitted the test to occur outside of his presence. Those VERY few occurances are EXCEPTIONS due to the nature of the situation and ONLY Soke makes the decision on whether or not the 15th dan is permitted to give the test. Soke has a right to make exceptions after all it is HIS rule.

Hello, I am new to the Kutaki forums.

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of someone or experienced getting hit during the godan test?

I have viewed 2 godan tests and heard of 3 others but everyone has passed, which is a great thing. I am just a little curious if anyone has ever failed?

Bah, I forgot to add that if anyone has heard of or experienced a failure on the godan test; what damage was done to what extent?

Oh well, I am surprised that you've heard only about successful tests I've heard about much more failure than about success Also heard about a recent case (maybe at the last Daikomyosai?) when someone did not feel the thing, which resulted in having a "little nap" after the hit came at him. But I was not there, so I don't know how exactly it happened.

If you had been at the Tai Kai in Holland (2000), you would not be asking that question! I watched probably the first twenty get nailed on the head until one passed. It was the Tai Kai where the first one to pass became number 1000 of those who had passed. Talk to SKH, he had his nose broken during one test. There are many such occurances and it can vary from a "knock out" like Eva mentioned to just a sore head.

skh failed the test so many times, the japanese shihan bought him a helmet to wear the few times he took the test until he passed. also on the 2002 takagi yoshin ryu daikomiosai dvd several people fail. kind of gives you a different view of things.

Check out the DKS 2002 DVD. I think it is probably the only DKS to show people failing the test. I could be wrong, as i do not have all of them, and have not seen all of them, but of all the ones i have, this is the only one that shows non passes (for want of a kind word)
