Hi,

I think I can help with the first one...
Quote:

1º Chihaya buru kami no oshie wa tokoshieni tada shiki kokoro mi o mamoruran shikin haramitsu daikomyo.

"千早ふる神の教えはとこしえに正しき心身を守るらん" In '92 I asked Ishizuka Sensei about this. He wrote saying, "Chihaya buru... maybe is very difficult to explain but meaning is ... God teach us forever that correct heart make self defense (maybe good translation)."

It is my understanding "Shiken haramitsu..." is not part of the saying.

Hope it helps

Take care,

Ryan Reed

I've heard that "Chihaya..." could be said before "Shikin..." Have actually heard some Shihans "using it" that way. And have even been told to do so myself

Has anyone ever found anything about these Gokui no uta? Besides the original reference here on Kutaki that linked to a Spanish page that no longer exists, everything else seems to be an echo chamber. I wonder if it is a practice for a Buddhist sect in Japan or elsewhere. Anyone know?

Several years ago Craig Olsen wrote a book covering this Uta. It is a very complete an thorough discussion of the prayer. I believe it is called "Chi Haya Buru". I recommend it for study - and it is a study.

There is a new UTA that Soke has up on the wall in Hombu this year. I have heard reference to it but no Japanese or english translation of it. Has anybody heard a complete translation?

I just noticed a list of several uta in Soke's book Essence of Budo at the end of chapter 1. Included in the list are the Chihaya buru..., translated as "The teachings of god; correct heart; eternally protect me." and also #4 from that list - Tsukikage no terasanu ..., translated "There is no country on which the moonkight does not shine, but it lives in the heart of the people that look at it."
None of them have Shikin Haramitsu Daikomyo appended. Some are attributed (Toda Shinryuken, Takuan).

If I had to guess, I would say the source of the gokui with shikin haramitsu daikomyo appended would likely be Hontai Saiga Ryu Ninpo. If I were to keep guessing, that would be a made up style. Oh wait, I just watched some video. No guessing needed. Still don't know if that's the source, but definitely made up ninpo.
