Can I make a suggestion, or rather a request. Would it be possible to normalize the audio before broadcast.
I enjoy listening to the podcast during my lunches but they require me to constantly moderate my volume levels.

Keep up the great work.

Had another request by email for the same thing. Not sure how to do that with GarageBand at the moment, but will export to Audacity and try it that way next time.

Thanks for the feedback,

Shawn

Shawn,

You can use MP3gain, however, I'm not sure if there is a Mac binary or not. I recommend using the default settings.

Cheers,
Pete

Sounds better, but could still use a bit of tweaking. The volume levels of some of your filler music seems to be the largest problem, but it is much improved.

Shawn, did you see the thing I posted as a comment on the podblog re: compression? I was actually tweaking about with various compressor plugins in Sound Forge and Audacity to see what sort of settings had the best results. The disparity between the level of your voice and the music levels means you have to use some pretty extreme compression to get an 'even' result.

Try getting a hotter input level with whatever microphone you're using. I presume there's a function somewhere in MacOS to alter recording input levels, like the 'Recording' section in the Windows mixer, then compress the whole thing to buggery and bring the overall level to a few decibels above max (normalise, then use the audio editor to drop the entire file's volume by 3-6 dB or so).

It's a shame I've never used a Mac for recording, or I'd be able to give you some more comprehensive hints & tips. Ah well. Hope this helps anyway. :)
