[ I focused on how to actually do the throw which uke attacks with. . .which is not the way it's shown on the various videos I mentioned earlier, which have something missing (hint: Japanese word beginning with a "k" sound).[/quote]

HA! We have been practicing Nichigeki for weeks, I must be light years ahead of you!!! Mwaaa ha ha ha ha!!

Seriously I know the secret word Dale. My "Kippu" to Narita is for tomorrow AM and I'll be at Ayase for the friday class! I hope to build my ego a bit!! (see other thread!)

after reading through this thread again i got an idea:

i think it would be great if Syd, Marty, Dale and others either residing in or visiting Japan would be kind enough to share at least some of their thoughts and experiences concerning training and the theme of Shiden Fudo Ryu. perhaps it could be an on-going thread throughout the year?

any thoughts or feelings on that fellas?

just my opinion, but i think it would be of great benefit to those of us who do not get to experience Hatsumi sensei up close and personal all that often.

thanks,

mark spada

This Friday Soke's class is indeed at Ayase and the Tuesday and Friday classes next week will be at Hombu. I was hoping to go to Ayase for Friday but I have to pick my cat up at the veterinarian. Priorities, ne...

Nice quotes. Gives me something to think about. ^__^

I'm pretty new to the Bujinkan (started beginning of the school year in September), so I don't know a lot about the different schools. Since the theme of this thread seems to be the Shindenfudo-ryu - would any of you mind explaining a bit about what this school is like? I know "shin" can be translated as "heart" (among other things) and "fudo" as "immovable", but overall what does that mean? Can any of you describe what the school is about? I'd really like to know a bit what I'm supposed to be learning, like things about the freedom of kamae in this school, mentioned in the first quote.

Thanks! Sorry if I should have started a new thread with this...

I agree with everyone else. I'm fairly new myself, and this school looks to be a bit advanced for my level of ukemi. As I understand it, this school includes throws from which the opponent is not meant to get up. So, if you don't have decent ukemi already, you may not get up either :D However, if you're looking for historical information on the school, there is some floating around the net:

Two things,

Am I correct in reading the rules for this thread that Non-Japan residents are not supposed to post on this thread?

Secondly, I think it would be great for people to discuss Soke's comments and perhaps some of their own insights to what they see in training, however - personal insights open to the comments and joking of others would kind of be like walking around naked in front of you all. I would be a little shy, you would likely be pretty grossed out!

I missed that. My mistake.

Thanks for welcoming me. It was my first post, lighten up.

I was just trying to answer the guy's question a little bit.

My most sincere apologies. I won't post in this thread anymore.

Nevermind. I think I read more into the above post than I should have. I thought I was being told not to post anymore.

My apologies. Feel free to delete these posts as they don't facilitate any discussion on this issue.

Oops. This thread is in the "resident perspective" forum, isn't it? I responded without noticing. Apologies to all, and I'm out of here (well, this thread anyhow).

I was asking if we cannot post a reply. I believe that the stated rule said that a Non Japanese resident could not start a thread here, is this correct Shawn? Just a point clarification.
