"Hidden in plain sight."

I've always loved that expression! It's often the very safest place to hide something important.

Just to summarize - Ueshiba did have a relationship with the Kuki family that lasted several years, but it doesn't appear that he knew or ever met Takamatsu Sensei. On a trip to Tokyo he came across 2 men named Saito and Got training in Kukishin Ryu and cross-trained with them for a few days. According to Kuki sources the 2 men may have given Ueshiba a complete run-through of both Takagi Yoshin Ryu and Kukishin Ryu kata, but he was shown as a peer not as a student. Remember, Ueshiba was an extremely powerful martial artist in his own right already. He may have picked up some nuance that he ended up incorporating into his own personal solo weapons practice, ie - jo, but that's probably the extent of the influence on Aikido.

As noted earlier, Takeda Sokaku's Daito Ryu is the main (by far) source of Ueshiba's Aikido, and his Aiki which is notably lacking in modern day Aikido. He studied with Takeda for over 20 years and his pre-war students have certificates that say "Daito Ryu" not Aikido.

Hope that helps!
