Topic/Theme for 2008?

Hi buyu,

I just got this link from one of the German forums:

http://www.livingbudo.nl/events_folder/2008-thema-togakure-ryu

There it's being said, that Togakure-Ryu is going to be the next years' theme.

Has that Ryu been a theme before?

What is (besides being a Ninja-Ryu) so special about this school?

Is there a great difference concerning the waza compared to for example Gyokko Ryu or this years' theme Kukishin-Ryu?

I am looking forward to the answers and to the (hopefully) upcoming discussion...
Fernando

I recall Togakure-ryû was announced the theme for 2000, but it got changed for Kotô-ryû.

Also I recall that Togakure-ryû's Taijutsu is based on the Taijutsu of Gyokko- and Kotô-ryû. This can maybe be noted from the book "The way of the Ninja".

he,he,he...

I would be surprised if I had been through with Kukishinden-Ryu!

To be honest: Somehow this is a ryu I can not relate to as the themes before.

I always have to be reminded (by mysef or by my instructors) that I am wearing an armor and somehow I must admit that this is not my favorite school so far... but then I am just a low rank being an 8th kyu. Perhaps I still need more time to get into this particular ryu.

Back to the topic:
Is this the first time that we are going to have a "Ninjabased"-Ryu as the theme of the year?

Somehow I must admit that I am kinda looking forward to that...

Well, both Kotô- (2000) and Gyokko-ryû (2001 and 2005) have been theme schools....

Bear in mind, Sensei often changes his mind throughout the year about the upcoming theme. I wouldn't count on Togakure Ryu being the theme until he actually starts teaching it. :)

Dear Buyu

inspired by this thread I surfed a bit and found the following overview of annual themes - does anybody know if it's correct?

If I remember correctly, Togakure Ryu has already been the annueal theme in the early 90ies, but it's not on this list... maybe somebody can shed some light on this "mystery"...

2007:
Kukishin(den) Ryu & Kuki Taishou

2006:
Shizen & Shinden Fudo Ryu (Ken & Taijutsu)

2005:
Gyokko-ryu Kosshijutsu Happoubiken, Bo-, Tachi- and Taijutsu

2004:
Daishou Jutaijutsu, Kuji Roppo no Biken, Budo no Kiso

2003:
Juppou-sesshou, Kunai, Ninja-tou, Tessen, Kyoketsushoge

2002:
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu, Daisho

2001:
Kosshijutsu from Gyokko-Ryu, Daisho

2000:
Koppojutsu from Koto-Ryu and Gikan-Ryu, Teppan und Ninja-To

1999:
Kukishin Ryu Happo Hiken Jutsu and rope

1998:
Shinden Fudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu

1997:
Jojutsu

1996:
Bikenjutsu

1995:
Naginatajutsu and Daisho Sabaki Gata

1994:
Sojutsu and Kodachi

1993:
Rokushaku Bojutsu

1992:

I seem to recall, that before 1998 the Taijutsu themes by a schoold were... alongside the weapon theme, which was the main one.

1998 was then maybe the 1st "Ryûgi year"...

Noticeable is also that many of the themes are from Kukishinden Happô Hiken.

And - if I may add another speculation - it seems that 1998 - 2002 all schools except the "Ninjutsu" ryuha have been tackled... then another change with Juppo Sessho...

That's spooky...

IF the list I've found is correct.

Hi Stefan,

thanks for the list concerning the annual themes of the Bujinkan.

If Togakure Ryu is being the next years' theme... anyone excited, or what do you buyu expect from it?
