Hi,

I was wondering if someone living in Japan would mind telling me what the current exchange rate is for US dollars to yen? I know the rate is different from bank to bank and for cash, travelers checks, etc., but I'm looking for a rough number.

Thank you!

Aric Keith

On EzForex the exchange rate is 93.6 Yen per 1 USD, but the exchane rate changes continuously.

about $18-20 USD will get you 2000 yen. understand that most exchange services charge you for the service

Thank you for the suggestions, I do know of all those. However, it does not actually help.

I know how to exchange currency and have been to Japan many times.

The exchange rate from a japanese bank, in Japan, is what I need to know. Rates are different from different sources. Someone will be taking this money to a bank in Japan, so I need to know fairly close what the current exchange rate is on the ground.

Thanks,

Aric

Have them (that someone) ask the actual bank they are taking the money to.

I wish I could... that would simplify my life a great deal!

The asahi link might help. I just want to get as close to the actual exchange rate in Japan before I send the US $.

Thanks,

Aric

Usually a debit card will give a rate that is very good, as they're able to deal in large flows (in both directions) and therefore can make a lot of money on a smaller spread.

Whatever that rate is you should be able to get by calling your bank or the company who's network your bank's card is on.

I would be suprised if a bank in Japan exchanging physical cash could do better than Visa or Mastercard electronically.

I may still not be answering the question; is there a specific reason that the cash has to be physically brought to a bank?
