Not sure, I only own the kage and a custom made pair of Australian leather. I'd order a size larger if your not sure, you can always fit it better with socks on.

Or wash them. Or is that heresy?

I am already a heretic because I wash my tabis periodically. I know, string me up, lol. I imagine the length is close to standard. I really like the Kage model, the low top because I like the soles better on those, though I'd prefer that sole on a high top style. In the pictures they look like they run a bit narrow. I have wide feet and usually buy wide sneakers. Does anyone who has seen the kages know if they do run more narrow than, say the fighter model?

I've read some other reviews on other sites also, and after much contemplation, I have decided upon the Takesyo. I think those will suit me best. Thanks for all the posts!

Sorry to digress but I need a new pair of naka tabi and my old pair have 7 kohaze but I only seem to be able to find them with 4 online. Any ideas?

I'm just guessing here but couldn't it be that the ones sold for trainning aren't that good compared to the ones construction workers actually use? I mean one thing is to copy the shape (like all those bootleg products from the infomertials) and the other is to make a functional copy. My suggestion is... keep asking here (specially the residents in Japan) about the brand that construction workers use.

On previous trips I've seen some really interesting options for jika tabi at a neighborhood hardware store. A personal favorite was the 'steel toe' variety. :)

None of them would fit my big ol' floppy feet of course, but if yours are in their range and you're in Japan, you might want to start there.

I'm not big on kohaze so I'd say go velcro or even sew some laces onto the achilles tendon area.

Got my Takesyo Tabi in, and I love them! Way better than the Rikio Fighters. Maybe someday I'll get some Kages, but for now I love these Takesyo ones.
