I think its generally 9 shaku, which is 270 cm give or take. Guess i agree with the above. By the way curtain rods and foam are one way to go.

I am by far no expert on yari, but I attended a seminar a few months ago where the instructor explained that yari varied widely in length from 6 to 16 foot and some longer.

We built a mess of 8 footers with foam padding and they worked great.

Doing the basic strikes alone is a decent shoulder workout. If you have an uke it can be a real challenge to move in on someone with that much range.
