Hi Liz,

How are things after today's earthquake. The video of the Tsunami damage is impressive!

Everyone I've talked to so far is fine. Chiba and Tokyo area were a few hundred kilometers from the city nearest the epicenter, Sendai (Miyagi Prefencture). Most places around here (Abiko, Chiba) got a really good shake - things falling off the walls, buildings swaying violently. I've seen some minor structural damage, but the area around the Hombu is quite removed from the coast, so there is no fear of tsunami here at least. (There have been a number of fires, however, mostly caused by broken gas lines.)

My apartment pretty much looked like Baghdad after it was over - lots of broken glass, the rooms covered with fallen books, clothing, furniture, etc. But like no structural damage to my building that I could see. (I still have to look at one of the walls though.)

At the time of this posting, it's now about 6 1/2 hours after the first quake hit, and we are still getting strong aftershocks about every 20 minutes or so.

The worst seems to be over now, for the northern-Chiba area at least. For people in Miyagi-ken, on the NE coast of Japan, the casualty count will probably go up tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone for their messages of concern.

Shawn

Thank you for taking the time to post shawn. Glad to hear that things aren't as bad in that region.

Hopefully the initial reports were inflated & that expedient response will reduce the impact.

Glad to hear our buyu are okay. The event itself however is beyond words. Horrific and shocking just do not not come close. The thoughts of the world are with those affected.
