This is the sword before the katana, here a good article from Arnauld Cousergue :

I think this is the beginning of the Tachi training and this will be the theme for futur seminar.

It looks to me like:
(reading from right to left)

Shin Den (Divinely Transmitted*)
"Aruno Guzerugu" (Arnaud's name in katakana)
Migi no Mono (The person to the right)
Daito
Menkyo Kaiden
Heisei 16 Nen 8 Gatsu** (August, 2004)
Soke Hatsumi Masaaki

*The first kanji looks to like "Shin" (ie. the "jin" of Bujin), but I'm not 100% sure.
**There is a kanji following the "August" which I am not sure of, but often a kanji is used in places like this to take the place of a specific day in the full date; a specific day is not mentioned, only the year and month

ähh, a little sidenote:

as far as I understand the Menkyo sais 太刀 Tachi
and not 大刀 Daitou.

Sorry, you're right. I was seeing Tachi and thinking Daito.

Heh, few weeks back I was on Arnaud Cousergues seminar, the theme of the seminar was: Roppô Kuji no Biken - Tachi Waza.

Tachi is pretty cool weapon when used properly.
