Does anybody now the standard (if such a thing exists when it comes to surviving) length of the rope on the kyoketsu shoge?
Thanks in advance!
(I did a search before writing this post, but I didn't find anything. But if I overlooked something I apologize!)

I'm not a specialist, but "NINJUTSU history and tradition" says it's "eighteen-foot cord" on p.133.

Hai, approximately 12 feet long. two arms spans. you should be able to span your arms with the rope twice to bring the ring into your hand. although there have been many lengths throughout history depending on the designers technique. but the length that is standardly accepted is as I have said...that,s from shidoshi Malmstrom if i rember correctly, kyoketsushoge, ken and kusarifundo seminar 1992, San Angelo Bujinkan Dojo,TX. I have experimented with the length and the best and I believe the most effective is approximately 12 feet or 4 meters. too much longer and you risk loosing control and the momentum of the ring slows down with the added weight of the rope. the two span rule provides for fast recovery of your ring and also you have less coils to manage in the other hand. it also boils down to fitting the weapon to your body. just make sure that what ever length you make it ..make sure you can return the ring back into your hand with some multiple of your arm span.

I have always used three full armspan lengths, or approximately 18 feet as George noted.

I have heard that there is no specific length but that there are three that everyone should know how to use - 15(maybe 18??) 20 and 30 foot.
I think the length of the rope is subjective to how much you are planning on using it as to how long it should be.
