Hello,
Here in Pittsburgh I'm in charge of dealing with new and prospective students. I've found that many people have the same questions when starting a martial art, so I wrote a FAQ for our website.
It can be found here: Martial art FAQ

questions and feedback welcome

Brian, I regret to say that I did find one thing I seriously disliked about it: It's in .pdf format, meaning that I can't just rip off the material and use it without attribution.

Seriously, I think it's a good piece of work. Without getting bogged down in concepts of hard/soft, internal/external, etc. you describe three broad categories of martial art for YOUR purpose of discussion, in a very comprehensible way. And your writing style comes across as personal and personable, rather than pedantic. I suspect that many people new to the arts who read the FAQ will find themselves thinking that they'd most likely enjoy training with you.

I'm pretty sure I would.

Hi Brian

I concurr with Dale. It's very layman and straight forward.
Your approach to it is very much from a prospective student's point of veiw..as opposed from a 'marketing' approach.

all the best

Roger

Thank you for the feedback. We've printed a bunch of them out and are giving them to people who come to observe instead of train. Anyone is free to use the article as marketing material for thier dojo.

Dale, I have a uncle out in San Francisco...when I go out to visit next time I'll see about paying your school a visit...saw you on myth busters, very cool!
