Strengthening exercises

I've been training in the art for about six or seven months now (on and off) and whilst I've made a lot of headway in terms of flexibility I'm constantly brought down by my lack of strength in my legs aswell as constant minor injury where I sprain my back after weekly training sessions.

So I'm wondering if anyone can recommend an exercise which might help me strengthen my legs and back, thanks

I agree with Nojon. Try to walk hard for an hour every day and go for the occasional 2 hour walk when possible. Swimming is also very good.

If you are straining your back in normal training there could be something else wrong so you should see a doctor and/or physio.

I'll keep that in mind. As for the back thing, most of the strain manifests itself down the back of my left thigh but I'll get it looked at.

Thanks for the advice.

For exercises, I'd recommend squats and deadlifts. Not a lot a weight, if any. Good general exercise.

However, before that I'd suggest seeing a Dr or chiropractor. If you have an inflamed muscle rubbing on a nerve, you need to get that under control before anything else. It could even be a disc problem which would only be aggravated by the exercise.

Push ups, sit ups, pull ups for the upper body and squats and lunges and mountain climbers for the lower body. Id say skip theweights. Look up Tabata Intervals on you tube for some rad 4 minute workouts.

I like hanging for lower back pain... Breathe normal while enlongating your spinal column! As mentioned in previous replies; seeking advice from a doctor is good medicine. Your age, health & fitness level all play a part in pursuing a fitness program Good Luck & if your are a beginner, take it slow

Start off with body weight lunges, ssquats, and the like.

My personal favorites are hindu squats.

Once those are feeling pretty comfortable move up to squats or dead-lifts. Remember when starting out here weight is not so much important as form,

SO don't worry too much about piling on a lot of weight, just get your form right.

Once you get pretty comfortable with that you can add on plyometrics, and running hill sprints for variation and explosiveness.

For your lower back try Romanian deadlift, and for your core try leg raises, flutter kicks, and plank.

Best of luck.
