Is it true that Togakure Ryu Ninja used Gyokko Ryu and Koto Ryu techniques?

Both the Koto and Togakure ryu are derivatives of the older Gyokko ryu, I think.

No. Togakure Ryu has it's own densho with it's own techniques.

But, Gyokko Ryu and Koto Ryu are connected in that they have fundamental skills and advanced Kata which are needed in order to develope the skills needed for Togakure Ryu.

In Both Gyokko Ryu & Koto Ryu the highest scrolls develop muto dori and Togakure Ryu begins with Muto Dori. So it's kinda like Togakure Ryu begins where the other two leave off.

The taijutsu for All Togakure ryu and the Bujinkan system in general is that of Gyokko Ryu. The oldest ryu in the system. its like the mother jewel. When in doubt...Gyokko ryu. hahha thats the same thing as saying go back to the basics.

As you all know, there are 9 schools in the bujinkan. Two of them were not initialy ninjutsu schools. I am refering to Kukishiden Ryu and Takagi Yoshin Ryu.

So, when we say that the basics are in Gyokko Ryu, that is mostly true, and I agree with most of what is being said in this post, but there is a nuance to make when we talk about the two abovementionned schools.

Hi,

Shiden Fudo Ryu is the first school that Takamatsu learned. As far as I know, it is ninjutsu.

As for the other schools, I prefer this order!!!

each school has their subtle or not so subtle differences... they all work with the same movements though... whether one is linear and one is circular, one is pressure points, etc. I'm pretty sure its been said b4... but from my knowledge it should be treated as one system! Bujinkan. If it were anyother way than I think we'd have 9 different systems instead of 9 different schools. Hatsumi also has other martial arts under his belt... whether he chooses to include them fully or just partially I think it is significant that the 9 are listed as Bujinkan.

As for shinden fudo ryu... I think that without looking to far into the history and the specifics it quickly becomes apparent that this school has something mysterious to it... it is a subdivided school allowing certain techniques to be hidden. Start reading things and forming your own oppinions... also look in sokes books

One system, but 9 different styles... I agree that the essence is the same in all the schools, but there are also major differences...

It's probably not wise to focus on the differences unless you master the essence, but we can have a good time talking about it anyhow!
